The Inaugural Quitline Development & Improvement Training, held in October 2011, was a five-day training designed to help participants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) build on existing momentum to start new quitlines and enhance current ones. The training also helped participants prioritize integration of smoking cessation programs into national health systems and FCTC-mandated tobacco control activities.

The following month, the WHO quitline manual (Developing and improving national toll-free tobacco quit line services) used during the Inaugural Training was published, and the IQI made select recordings of the Inaugural Training available online.

In August 2015, the IQI conducted a similar training for quitline managers in Shanghai, China.
